Capriano is a 2,500 inhabitants town of located 3km from Briosco, on the north of Milan. The project for a new civic library can stimulate leisure activities and dialogue with the community, becoming a strong polarity, a space that people can really enjoy. Lots of activities are taking place nowadays on the site: children’s playground, outdoor events, Alpine community meetings. It is therefore extremely important to integrate the new building with the outdoor areas so that they can communicate architecturally and programmatically. The ground floor is intended for reading and studying, while the basement hosts the children’s room and the media room that can accommodate events or exhibitions or work as small civic hall. Different spaces and activities are a journey towards knowledge. The building is designed as a terrace overlooking the park. An external staircase splits the volume in two, connecting the two levels of the landscape. To assure accessibility the park’s slope is over come by a slow path, a continuous belt that surrounds the building and define a new landscape design for the park.
